Yes there is. Any material in or around a pickup will have an affect on tone. The chassis or bobbin material is no exeption. Silent J's pickups have carefully selected the right materials for optimum tone. Aluminium pickups typically produce a well rounded, smooth warm tone. Stainless Steel pickups are bursting with dynamics. Carbon Fibre is inbetween the two, but more similar to Stainless Steel.

Its very difficult to quantify tone with words, as your amp, cable and tone woods of your guitar also play a very important part of the tone charactoristic.

No... we do not. Standard fibreboard or plastic offers zero protection against electrical noise.

No... Cloth wire offers zero protection against noise. By using cloth wires on your guitar electrics or pickups you are actually inducing / picking up more noise. We only use studio grade shielded Van Damme wires on our Strat and Tele pickups.

No... we do not. Humbucker covers are ofter made of metal. Metal covers on humbuckers reduce the tonal profile of the pickup. This is why we only offer coverless, noise free humbuckers.

Interesting question.... Basically, the more turns of wire a pickup has on its bobbin, the more it will induce / pickup. So the more turns that are on there, the louder / hotter the pickup will become. ... and of course the noise / interference you will also pickup. Here at Silent J's pickups we are able to significantly reduce noise without compromising tone.
